An honest roundup of shop management software for small independent shops: ARI, Torque360, AutoRepair Cloud, Shop Boss, Tekmetric, Shopmonkey and Lugbird, strengths, weaknesses and price.

There's a real gap in this category. Below roughly $40 a month you get budget tools with real tradeoffs. Above roughly $199 a month you get polished platforms built for shops with four-plus bays and the budget to match. In between, there hasn't been a dependable modern option, until now. Here's an honest look at the field, including where we sit in it.
ARI
ARI is the budget favourite, especially with mobile mechanics: real features (VIN scan, DVI, invoicing) at the lowest price in the category, Pro runs $39.99 a month, or $33.33 a month billed annually. The tradeoff shows up in reliability. Reviewers report duplicated invoice items and numbers, inconsistent labor-time suggestions, a QuickBooks bulk-sync issue as of 2026, and general stability complaints like slow loads and glitchy pages.
Torque360
Torque360 is a budget all-rounder with digital authorizations, DVIs, and PartsTech parts integration. Starter runs $59.99 a month billed annually and caps at 5 users, Turbo runs $119.99 a month annually with unlimited users. One-time add-on fees include a $499 payments integration and a $999 scheduler, worth budgeting for separately if you need them.
AutoRepair Cloud
AutoRepair Cloud is another budget-oriented option in this space, aimed at smaller independent shops. We don't have independently verified current pricing or feature-gate details for it, so rather than guess, check its site directly for its current plans before comparing it against the others here.
Shop Boss
Shop Boss is a web-based shop manager built around a live workflow board (the BOSS Board), with unlimited users included. Gold starts at $199 a month and tiers rise to $649 for Premier Plus, and data migration runs $399 to $899 separately. Reviewers report outages at the counter and a laggy mobile app, and small shops sometimes describe it as expensive for the feature set they actually use.
Tekmetric
Tekmetric is the category leader for established shops chasing efficiency metrics. Its Start, Grow and Scale tiers run $199, $349 and $439 a month, flat per shop with unlimited users, month-to-month. Two-way texting is gated to the top Scale tier and the MOTOR labor guide starts at Grow, so the effective price to get the full feature set is higher than the $199 headline.
Shopmonkey
Shopmonkey is a polished all-in-one platform for growing multi-bay shops, with in-house payments and marketing add-ons. Basic, Clever and Genius tiers run $239, $399 and $499 a month, each including 3 to 5 users with extra users at $20 a month each. Its terms state agreements can't be terminated for convenience during the term, worth reading closely before signing.
Where Lugbird fits
Lugbird's free "Independent" plan covers unlimited users, customers and vehicles, 25 open repair orders a month, photo DVIs, VIN decode, and the live customer tracker with online approval, no card required to start. Pro is a flat $49 a month: unlimited repair orders, unlimited inspection photos, reports, and your branding on the tracker and invoices, still with unlimited users and no per-seat math. Month-to-month, cancel self-serve, full CSV export any time, no setup fees, no demo call. We're built for the shop that's outgrown a spreadsheet but doesn't want to pay $199 to $499 a month or sign an annual term to get there.

How to actually choose
Start from your bay count and your must-haves, not the lowest price. A one or two bay shop rarely needs a marketing CRM or multi-shop management. A four-plus bay shop chasing efficiency metrics will likely outgrow a budget tool's reliability limits. Match the platform to what your shop does today, and confirm current pricing directly with each vendor before you commit, every price above can and does change.
